Select the Storage Volume to remove hold. Releasing the hold will allow deletion of the snapshot.

The "Remove Storage Volume Hold" feature in QuantaStor is used to lift a previously applied hold on a storage volume. When a hold is in place, it typically restricts modifications and deletions to protect the data. Removing the hold re-enables normal operations on the volume.

Here’s why you might use this feature:

  • End of Data Retention Period: When the mandatory data retention period expires, the hold can be removed, allowing for normal operations, including data modification or deletion, in compliance with data lifecycle management policies.
  • Completion of Legal or Compliance Requirements: Once legal holds or compliance-related holds are no longer necessary, such as after the conclusion of an investigation or litigation, the hold can be removed.
  • Resumption of Regular Operations: If the hold was applied temporarily during critical operations (like migrations or system updates) to prevent accidental changes, removing the hold allows for the resumption of regular operations once those activities are complete.
  • Data Updates or Deletion: When it becomes necessary to update, archive, or delete data that was previously protected, removing the hold enables these operations.
  • Operational Flexibility: Removing a hold can be part of routine maintenance or administrative tasks where storage volumes need to be reconfigured, repurposed, or integrated into new workflows.

Steps typically involved in removing a storage volume hold:

  • Identify the Volume: Select the storage volume from which the hold needs to be removed.
  • Remove Hold: Use the QuantaStor interface to remove the hold, ensuring that the action is authorized and documented according to organizational policies.
  • Verify: Confirm that the hold has been successfully removed and that normal operations can resume on the volume.

Overall, the purpose of the "Remove Storage Volume Hold" feature in QuantaStor is to provide flexibility and control over storage volume management, enabling administrators to re-enable normal operations on volumes that were previously protected by holds, in accordance with organizational, legal, or operational requirements.
