QuantaStor 5 appliances on Bare Metal servers deliver new levels of agility to IT organizations seeking dedicated, highly-secure and hyper-scalable storage solutions across IBM Cloud's global network of 60+ data centers. Featuring unified file, block and object protocol support and unique grid management technology, QuantaStor SDS appliances address a broad set of workloads including server virtualization, big data, cloud backup, media editing, deep archive, and high-performance compute applications. QuantaStor 5 is designed, integrated and certified for use with all Mass Storage Servers in the IBM Cloud.

QuantaStor Server Deployment Guide

The following guide provides step-by-step guidance for the selection, online ordering and provisioning of a QuantaStor SDS appliance on IBM Cloud Bare Metal servers that best fits your storage requirements:

Step One: Choose the QuantaStor solution that matches your workload. QuantaStor is versatile storage software with capabilities that are divided broadly into scale-up block and file solutions or scale-out block, object and file solutions. More information regarding QuantaStor's workload capabilities are published in the Solution Matrix.

Step Two: Click on the Solution links below for assistance with IBM Cloud hardware selection and ordering on https://www.ibm.com/cloud/. Within each Solution, you will find reference configurations for hardware specified to your workload and sized to the QuantaStor license tiers available on the IBM Cloud. You can also customize your build using the [OSNEXUS Solution Design Tool for IBM Cloud].

Step Three: Upon receipt of your new IBM Cloud QuantaStor/Bare Metal server, follow the provisioning instructions for the set up and deployment of your new storage appliance according to our best practice guidelines.

Solutions

QuantaStor SAN/NAS servers provide block (iSCSI) and file (NFS/SMB) storage for a wide variety of use cases including server virtualization, data analytics, backup storage and databases/OLTP. Hybrid configurations leverage a combination of HDDs and SSDs to provide fast and reliable, storage on cost-efficient hardware.

SAN/NAS Storage Servers

QuantaStor Scale-Out Block and Object storage based on Ceph technology provide block and S3 compatible object storage using erasure-coding and replica-based data distribution technology to achieve high-availability and fault-tolerance.

Scale-out Block Storage Cluster
Scale-out Object Storage Cluster

QuantaStor Dedicated Appliances for VMware storage servers provide VMware certified NFS and iSCSI storage with advanced features including encryption, compression, and remote-replication.

Dedicated SAN/NAS Appliances for VMware

QuantaStor NAS Gateway Appliances can be configured to periodically back-up local NAS storage to IBM Cloud Object Storage as objects or cache metadata as a pure NAS pass-thru gateway to IBM Cloud Object Storage.

NAS Gateway Appliance

QuantaStor Scale-out NAS Archive configurations provide highly-available file storage suitable archive applications with lower performance requirements. SSD is added to each appliance to accelerate write performance and each NAS Archive cluster must contain a minimum of 3x appliances.
