Remove an existing Erasure Coding (EC) profile that has been previously created for Ceph storage pools.

In QuantaStor, the "Delete Ceph EC Profile" feature is used to remove an existing Erasure Coding (EC) profile that has been previously created for Ceph storage pools. Erasure coding is a data protection mechanism that distributes data across multiple disks in a Ceph storage cluster, providing redundancy and fault tolerance.

The purpose of the "Delete Ceph EC Profile" function is to allow administrators to remove an EC profile that is no longer needed or relevant. Deleting an EC profile removes it from the configuration, ensuring that it is no longer available for use in creating or modifying Ceph storage pools.

Here are a few key points regarding the purpose and implications of deleting a Ceph EC profile in QuantaStor:

  • Profile Management: QuantaStor provides the ability to manage and organize EC profiles to simplify the management of erasure-coded storage pools. Deleting an EC profile allows administrators to clean up unused or obsolete profiles from the system.
  • Customization: EC profiles can be customized to match specific requirements, such as choosing the coding technique, chunk sizes, and other parameters. Deleting a profile removes it from the available options, so it's important to ensure that the profile is no longer needed before deleting it.
  • Pool Compatibility: When deleting an EC profile, it's crucial to consider the Ceph storage pools that are using the profile. If a pool is using the profile being deleted, it may impact the pool's configuration and data accessibility. Care should be taken to ensure the pool's erasure coding configuration remains valid after the profile deletion.
  • Permanent Removal: Deleting a Ceph EC profile is typically a permanent action. Once a profile is deleted, it cannot be recovered. It's recommended to carefully review and confirm the profile to be deleted to avoid unintended data loss or configuration issues.

By using the "Delete Ceph EC Profile" feature in QuantaStor, administrators can manage their erasure coding configurations, remove unused or outdated profiles, and ensure the availability of relevant and up-to-date EC profiles for creating or modifying Ceph storage pools.
