Create a Remote Network Share Replication.

In QuantaStor, the purpose of creating a "Remote Network Share Replica" is to set up replication between in the designated remote storage pool. The purpose of creating such a replica is to ensure data redundancy, disaster recovery, and high availability of network shares or file systems.

If diff mode is chosen, then the new network share replica is created as a checkpoint where only the deltas are sent since the last replication. If full is selected, a new replica share is created where all the data is resent.

Some potential purposes and benefits of creating a Remote Network Share Replica:

  • Data Redundancy and Protection: Creating a remote replica of a network share or file system helps ensure data redundancy and protection. Changes made to the primary network share or file system are replicated to the remote replica, providing an additional copy of the data. In case of data loss or corruption in the primary location, the replica can be utilized to restore the data, ensuring data availability and mitigating the risk of data loss.
  • Disaster Recovery: The Remote Network Share Replica feature enables disaster recovery capabilities. In the event of a site failure, network outage, or major data loss in the primary location, the replica can be used as a failover target, allowing for seamless failover and reducing downtime. This helps maintain business continuity and minimize the impact of disasters.
  • High Availability: Creating a remote replica of a network share or file system allows for high availability. In case of a failure in the primary location, the replica can be activated to provide continued access to the network share or file system, minimizing service disruptions and ensuring data accessibility.
  • Geographical Redundancy: The Remote Network Share Replica feature enables replication across geographically distributed locations. This provides geographical redundancy, protecting against localized disasters, site failures, or network outages. It ensures that network shares or file systems are replicated and available in multiple locations, reducing the risk of data loss or unavailability.
  • Data Synchronization: The replica of a network share or file system helps in synchronizing data changes between the primary and replica locations. Changes made to the primary network share or file system, such as file modifications, additions, or deletions, are replicated to the replica, ensuring consistency and data integrity between the locations.
  • Load Balancing and Performance: In some cases, a replica of a network share or file system can be used for load balancing or performance optimization purposes. By distributing access to the network share or file system across multiple locations, it can help distribute the workload and improve performance by reducing the load on a single location.
