Add a Host.

The "Add Host" feature in QuantaStor allows users to add and configure external hosts or servers within the QuantaStor storage environment. By adding a host, users can establish connectivity and manage storage resources on the external server, enabling it to interact with the QuantaStor storage system.

A host represents a server or host computer in your environment. In order to control access to storage volumes (LUNs) via the iSCSI and FibreChannel protocols you must add host entries to your QuantaStor appliance. When you add a host you must specify the first initiator port identifier for the host. Once created you can assign any number of storage volumes to the host.

Note also that after you have created a host entry you can add more initiator ports to the existing host by right-clicking on the Host and choosing 'Add Host Initiator...'. Hosts can be identified by FibreChannel WWNs and/or iSCSI IQN(s). You can also group hosts together in a 'Host Group' to simplify the process of assigning storage to a group of hosts all at once.

The IQN format is iqn:anyName.

The purpose of the Add Host feature in QuantaStor includes:

  • Storage Integration: Adding a host allows for seamless integration of external servers with the QuantaStor storage system. It enables the host to access and utilize storage resources, such as volumes, shares, or file systems, provided by the QuantaStor storage system.
  • Resource Management: Once a host is added, administrators can manage and allocate storage resources to the host. This includes assigning volumes, configuring access permissions, and defining storage-related settings to meet the requirements of the external server.
  • Data Sharing: Adding a host facilitates data sharing between the external server and the QuantaStor storage system. It enables the host to access and manipulate data stored within the QuantaStor environment, facilitating collaboration, data exchange, or shared storage scenarios.
  • Storage Services: By adding a host, administrators can leverage various storage services provided by QuantaStor. This includes features such as snapshots, replication, data deduplication, or encryption, which can be utilized by the external server to enhance data protection and storage efficiency.
  • Centralized Management: The Add Host feature contributes to centralized management of storage resources. Administrators can configure and manage storage-related settings for the host from within the QuantaStor interface, providing a unified and streamlined approach to storage management.
  • Storage Virtualization: Adding a host supports storage virtualization capabilities provided by QuantaStor. It enables the external server to utilize virtualized storage resources, such as virtual volumes or virtual disks, abstracted and managed by the QuantaStor storage system.

Overall, the purpose of the Add Host feature in QuantaStor is to establish connectivity and enable external servers to utilize storage resources within the QuantaStor storage environment. It facilitates storage integration, resource management, data sharing, storage services utilization, centralized management, and storage virtualization, enhancing the capabilities and flexibility of the QuantaStor storage system in supporting diverse server environments.
