Modify a role.
Roles must be created or modified to limit user access to operations.

In QuantaStor, the "Modify Role" feature serves the purpose of adjusting and customizing the settings and permissions associated with a user role. User roles in QuantaStor define predefined sets of permissions and access rights that can be assigned to users or user groups.

User roles represent the list of operations that a user assigned with that role can do. Here you can change the name and description for the role to indicate it's intended purpose. In some cases you may create a role for a module or service like Microsoft VSS in those cases you'll want to create a role which is restricted to view operations and storage volume. Be sure to provide a good description for these custom roles so that they properly convey their intended use.

Here's an overview of the purpose and implications of modifying a role in QuantaStor:

  • Adjusting permissions: Modifying a role allows you to fine-tune the specific permissions associated with that role. You can add or remove permissions for various actions or functionalities within the QuantaStor management interface. For example, you might grant or revoke the ability to create or delete storage pools, manage network configurations, or access specific administrative features.
  • Customizing role attributes: When modifying a role, you can customize attributes such as the role name and description to reflect its purpose or the specific responsibilities associated with it. This allows you to organize and differentiate roles effectively within the QuantaStor system.
  • Role-based access control: Modifying roles plays a crucial role in implementing role-based access control (RBAC) in QuantaStor. RBAC ensures that users or user groups are assigned roles with appropriate permissions based on their roles or responsibilities within the organization. By modifying roles, you can tailor the access control framework to align with your specific security and organizational requirements.

Modifying roles allows administrators to customize and fine-tune the access permissions and settings within the QuantaStor system, ensuring that users or user groups have appropriate levels of access based on their roles and responsibilities.
