This operation will scan for hot-plugged disk devices and then will look for storage pools. It will then attempt to activate any offline or new storage pools that were discovered.

In QuantaStor, the "Rescan Storage Pool" feature is used to re-scan and update the status and configuration of a storage pool. It is typically performed when there are changes or updates to the underlying physical disks or disk groups associated with the storage pool.

If the storage pool has been manually modified or a storage volume manually added or migrated to the pool you can use the Rescan Storage Pool option to rescan the existing storage pools and to look for any storage pools that may have been added to the system. Rescanning doesn't interrupt access to volumes and shares.

The purpose of the "Rescan Storage Pool" function is to ensure that the QuantaStor management software has the most up-to-date information about the storage pool and its constituent disks. When a storage pool is re-scanned, the following actions typically occur:

  • Disk detection: The system re-detects and re-evaluates the physical disks or disk groups that are part of the storage pool. This includes detecting any newly added disks or removing any disks that are no longer present.
  • Disk status update: The status of each disk, such as online, offline, degraded, or failed, is refreshed based on the current state of the disks. This allows administrators to have an accurate view of the health and availability of the storage pool.
  • Capacity update: The system updates the available capacity of the storage pool based on the changes in disk configuration. This ensures that the storage pool's capacity information reflects the actual amount of usable storage space.
  • Configuration validation: The storage pool's configuration, including RAID levels, caching settings, and other parameters, is revalidated to ensure consistency and correctness. This helps maintain data integrity and optimal performance.
  • Pool synchronization: If the storage pool utilizes data redundancy mechanisms such as RAID, the system may initiate synchronization or rebuilding processes to bring the pool back to a fully redundant state if there were any disk changes or failures.

The purpose of the "Rescan Storage Pool" feature is to keep the QuantaStor management software in sync with the physical storage infrastructure. By performing a rescan, administrators can ensure that the storage pool's configuration and status are accurately represented within the management interface, allowing for effective monitoring, management, and utilization of the storage resources.
