General Settings:You may alter the name and/or description for the storage volume. One may also change the Storage Pool Information.

In QuantaStor, the "Modify Storage Volume" feature is used to make changes or adjustments to the configuration and properties of a storage volume.

You can modify the name and description of a storage volume using this dialog. The advanced settings allow for changing settings like Read Only and iSCSI CHAP authentication policies for the storage volume. The 'Is Snapshot' option is particular to btrfs based storage pools and allows you to promote a snapshot volume to a root/primary volume.

The purpose of the "Modify Storage Volume" function is to provide flexibility and control over the characteristics of a storage volume. This feature allows you to modify various parameters of the volume to align with your specific storage requirements.

When you use the "Modify Storage Volume" feature, you can typically make changes such as:

  • Size: Adjust the capacity or size of the storage volume, expanding or reducing it based on your storage needs.
  • Access Control: Manage the permissions and access control settings for the storage volume, specifying who can read, write, or modify the data within it.
  • Replication or Mirroring: Configure replication or mirroring settings for the volume, enabling data synchronization and redundancy across multiple systems or locations.
  • Compression and Deduplication: Enable or disable data compression and deduplication features for the volume, optimizing storage efficiency and reducing space requirements.
  • Thin Provisioning: Modify the thin provisioning settings of the volume, controlling how storage capacity is allocated and utilized.
  • Snapshotting: Configure or adjust the snapshot settings for the volume, allowing you to create point-in-time copies of the data for backup, recovery, or testing purposes.

The specific parameters and options available for modification may vary depending on the capabilities of the QuantaStor platform and the configuration of the storage volume.

The "Modify Storage Volume" feature is beneficial when you need to adapt the storage volume to changing requirements, optimize performance, or adjust its properties to match evolving storage needs. It provides flexibility in managing and fine-tuning the configuration of the volume to achieve the desired storage outcomes.

Advanced Settings: Volume block size is immutable after a volume has been created, all other settings may be adjusted after provisioning. One may also alter the CHAP Authentication or Policy Settings.
