What Does EOL Mean?

EOL, or End-of-Life for a given version means that that version should no longer be used for new installations. OSNexus supports all systems with active licenses irrespective of what version there on. That said, QuantaStor is Linux based and systems must be periodically upgraded to ensure we can keep your system up to date with the latest QuantaStor software and Linux security patches. As such if a system is on an older EOL version of QuantaStor we may require the system to be upgraded to resolve a given support ticket. OSNexus provides assistance with upgrades and we recommend getting a support ticket opened if you're system is running an older Linux distro where a distro upgrade is required.

What Determines EOL?

QuantaStor product Security Updates EOL timeline follows the Ubuntu Server LTS EOL timelines. When a given underlying Linux distro no longer has security updates available for it we move that series of QuantaStor releases over to EOL so that we don't get any new deployments using those versions. One should always setup new systems with the latest version of QuantaStor as there is compatibility for having newer and older versions of QuantaStor in the same storage grid.

If you're running QuantaStor on a different distro like RHEL or a RHEL derivative your EOL timeline may be different. Again, OSNEXUS supports QuantaStor installations through their full subscription term irrespective of the QuantaStor version but EOL versions may require an upgrade to address a given support ticket. We urge customers to upgrade at least annually to keep their QuantaStor deployments current and assistance is available for upgrades, simply email support to schedule a Zoom call to get assistance. Some deployments may require a maintenance windows for upgrades especially when moving up from very old Linux distributions. Keeping current with releases also keeps a deployment current with the latest security updates from the Linux community.

Hardware Enablement Kernel Updates

QuantaStor releases occasionally include new kernel updates to support the latest storage and networking hardware. Kernel updates come out typically once or twice a year at most and generally align with the Ubuntu LTS Kernel releases.
