Templates
If you're installing QuantaStor from ISO into a virtual machine or bare-metal hardware that's being cloned you may also want to make that system into a template so that it can be copied such that each new system automatically gets a new unique system identifier. With a template you can easily setup larger QuantaStor grids using VM cloning features of your hypervisor to setup multi-node QuantaStor storage grids quickly. There are a few commands you'll need to run in order to prepare the system to be used as a template, they are:
sudo qs-util resetids
That will reset the storage system ID for the system so that it is reinitialized on the next reboot. IMPORTANT: When cloning a new QuantaStor instance from a template be sure to choose 'Reset all MAC addresses' for all the network ports. If this is not done a new ID will not be generated for the QuantaStor service and it will not be able to combine with other systems to form a grid.
Clearing MAC Address Information (QS 4.x only)
sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules sudo shutdown -P now
On QuantaStor 4 and earlier versions the MAC address to port name mapping must also be reinitialized. To do that the above step of removing the 70-persistent-net.rules will result in new names for the Ethernet ports starting with eth0.
