Rescan the Ceph Buckets.

The purpose of the "Rescan S3 Buckets" feature in QuantaStor is to trigger a refresh or re-synchronization of the metadata associated with the Amazon S3-compatible buckets that are managed within the QuantaStor system. Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is a popular object storage service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and QuantaStor allows you to integrate and manage S3-compatible storage within its environment.

When you use the "Rescan S3 Buckets" feature in QuantaStor, it performs the following actions:

  • Metadata Refresh: QuantaStor queries the S3-compatible storage provider to retrieve the latest metadata information associated with the S3 buckets. This includes information about objects (files) stored in the buckets, bucket properties, access policies, and more.
  • Synchronization: If there were any changes to the S3 buckets made externally (outside of QuantaStor) since the last metadata update in QuantaStor, the "Rescan S3 Buckets" feature synchronizes those changes with the QuantaStor database. This ensures that the QuantaStor management interface reflects the current state of the S3 buckets and their contents.
  • Consistency Check: The rescan process helps in verifying the consistency and integrity of the metadata in the QuantaStor system. It ensures that the data and configurations in QuantaStor match the actual state of the S3-compatible storage provider.

The "Rescan S3 Buckets" feature is especially useful in scenarios where changes to S3 buckets might occur externally, such as when objects are added, modified, or deleted directly through the S3 API or other S3-compatible tools. By triggering a rescan, QuantaStor can stay up-to-date with the latest changes and ensure accurate reporting and management of S3 bucket information.
