Scan all external system credentials owned by the selected storage system (or specific credentials).

In QuantaStor, the "Rescan External System" feature serves the purpose of initiating a scan or refresh operation to detect and update the status of external systems integrated into the QuantaStor storage environment. These external systems could include storage arrays, tape libraries, backup appliances, or any other network-connected devices used for data storage, backup, or management purposes.

The purpose of rescanning an external system in QuantaStor includes:

  • Dynamic Discovery: External systems may undergo changes in configuration, connectivity, or status over time. Rescanning allows QuantaStor to dynamically rediscover external systems on the network, ensuring that the storage environment remains up-to-date with the latest system configurations and changes.
  • Device Detection: Rescanning triggers a detection process to identify newly added or removed external devices within the storage environment. This helps QuantaStor recognize changes in the storage infrastructure, such as the addition of new storage arrays or the removal of malfunctioning devices.
  • Status Update: Rescanning updates the status and availability of external systems and devices in the QuantaStor management interface. Administrators can quickly view the current status of external systems, including their connectivity, health, and operational status, facilitating monitoring and management tasks.
  • Configuration Synchronization: Rescanning ensures that the configuration settings and parameters associated with external systems are synchronized and consistent with the actual state of the devices. This helps prevent discrepancies or inconsistencies between the QuantaStor configuration and the physical storage infrastructure.
  • Resource Allocation: Rescanning provides administrators with visibility into available resources, such as storage capacity, disk drives, or tape cartridges, within external systems. This information helps administrators allocate resources effectively and plan for storage expansion or optimization based on the detected inventory of external devices.
  • Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Rescanning assists in troubleshooting and diagnostics by refreshing device information and detecting any potential issues or errors within the storage environment. Administrators can use the updated status information to diagnose problems, identify faulty devices, and take corrective actions as needed.

Overall, the purpose of the "Rescan External System" feature in QuantaStor is to ensure that the storage environment remains synchronized, updated, and accurately reflects the current state of external systems and devices. By initiating a rescan operation, administrators can maintain visibility, monitor changes, and manage external storage resources effectively within the QuantaStor storage environment.
