OSD identification causes the physical disk LED for the selected OSD to flash on and off in a pattern so that the disk may be easily identified in the enclosure.

In QuantaStor, the "Ceph OSD Identify" feature is used to identify and gather information about individual Ceph OSD (Object Storage Daemon) nodes within a Ceph cluster managed by QuantaStor.

Ceph OSDs are responsible for storing data, handling data replication, and managing data recovery within a Ceph storage cluster. Each OSD represents a storage device or disk that contributes to the overall storage capacity and performance of the cluster.

The purpose of the "Ceph OSD Identify" function is to provide administrators with detailed information about each OSD, including its status, health, configuration, and other relevant metadata. This information can help in troubleshooting, monitoring, and managing the OSD nodes within the Ceph cluster.

When using the "Ceph OSD Identify" feature in QuantaStor, you can typically expect to retrieve the following information:

  • OSD ID: The unique identifier assigned to each OSD within the Ceph cluster.
  • Status and Health: The current status and health of the OSD, indicating whether it is online, offline, or experiencing any issues or errors.
  • Device Information: Details about the underlying storage device associated with the OSD, such as the device name, model, capacity, and other device-specific attributes.
  • Placement Group (PG) Mapping: Information about the Placement Groups (PGs) that the OSD participates in, including the PG IDs and the OSD's role in data replication and distribution.
  • Configuration Settings: OSD-specific configuration parameters and settings, such as the OSD journal size, CRUSH weight, replication factor, or any other OSD-specific tuning parameters.

By using the "Ceph OSD Identify" feature in QuantaStor, administrators can gain visibility into the OSD nodes' characteristics and status, enabling them to monitor the health and performance of individual OSDs, diagnose issues, and make informed decisions regarding OSD management and maintenance tasks.

It's important to note that the specific information and attributes provided by the "Ceph OSD Identify" feature may vary depending on the version of QuantaStor, the Ceph cluster configuration, and the available monitoring and diagnostic tools integrated with QuantaStor.
