'mark good' all of the disk devices before you can use the 'Import' operation to bring the array/unit back online.

The "Mark Disk Device as Good" feature in QuantaStor is used to manually change the status of a disk device within the storage system to "good." This feature is typically utilized in scenarios where a disk has been marked as bad or failed, but has been tested and found to be functioning correctly. By marking the disk as good, it can be reintegrated into the storage pool or RAID array, making it available for normal operations.

Here’s why you might use this feature:

  • Manual Recovery: After a disk has been marked as bad due to a temporary issue (e.g., a transient error or a minor glitch), and subsequent testing has shown that the disk is actually in good condition, this feature allows administrators to reinstate the disk without replacing it.
  • Testing and Validation: When a disk has been replaced or fixed and extensive testing confirms its health, marking it as good ensures that the storage system recognizes the disk as operational.
  • Avoiding Unnecessary Replacement: If a disk was incorrectly marked as bad due to a false positive in error detection, marking it as good helps avoid unnecessary replacement costs and downtime.
  • Maintenance Operations: During maintenance or after resolving a known issue that caused the disk to be marked as bad, this feature allows the disk to be brought back into active service.
  • Storage Pool Management: Keeping disks correctly marked helps in maintaining accurate status and health information of the storage pool, contributing to better overall system management.

Steps typically involved in marking a disk device as good:

  • Identify Disk: Select the disk device that has been tested and validated as functioning correctly.
  • Mark as Good: Use the QuantaStor interface to change the status of the disk to "good."
  • Reintegrate: If applicable, reintegrate the disk into the storage pool or RAID array to resume normal operations.
  • Verify: Ensure that the disk is correctly recognized by the system and that its status is reflected accurately in the storage management interface.

Overall, the purpose of the "Mark Disk Device as Good" feature in QuantaStor is to provide administrators with a tool to manually update the status of a disk device after verification of its health, allowing for better management of disk resources and maintaining the integrity and performance of the storage system.
